We use the Dolch Sight Words in Kindergarten to help our literacy development. These words should be practiced so that they can be recognized by SIGHT versus decoding, or sounding out. Children should study a few words at a time for optimal success. Learning too many words at once will end up taking longer to master. Students are not expected to know how to spell these words in order to "know" them. Though writing the words is a good practice activity, we are only expecting them to recognize the words when reading them in isolation and in text.
